Why does WIC emphasize food packages high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, protein, calcium, and folate? Because national studies have demonstrated that the population eligible for these food products is low in these target nutrients.

An essential component of the WIC program is Education. Once learned, healthy eating and WIC Nutrition Classespositive lifestyle habits result in improved health for generations to come.   This year our annual Education Plan was based on a needs assessment of Tooele Population using CDC data, client surveys, and identified risk factors, including education in these essential vitamins and minerals. Nutrition classes are taught monthly, and participants must attend a selected number of classes to remain eligible for the program.  Tooele County Health Department has hired special Spanish Speaking Staff to teach and interpret as needed.Did you know that Dad can apply for WIC? Men who have children under the age of five can apply for WIC benefits for their children!!!!!!!!
