To protect against disease, children need immunizations during the first two years of life to prevent illness, disability, and even death. Immunizations should continue into adolescence and throughout adulthood to protect against vaccine preventable illness. Adults should receive a tetanus booster every 10 years.  Flu shots and Flu Mist are always available in the fall as well as pneumococcal pneumonia.  High risk persons as well as elderly individuals should be vaccinated.

Some of the immunizations available at the Tooele County Health Department are:

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), "Vaccination has been one of the 20th Century's most effective tool for preventing disease and death.  At the beginning of this  century, five vaccines had been developed; in this century, 21 diseases have been added to the list of those which are preventable by vaccine."

Thanks to worldwide immunization programs, polio caused by wild virus has been eradicated from the Western Hemisphere; childhood vaccination levels in the United States are at an all-time high; and Haemophilus influenza type b are at or near record lows.
