The Gold Medal School Initiative (GSMI) was born in the fall of 2001 in conjunction with the Salt Lake Olympic Games in 2002, and Gold Medal School Awardcontinues today as part of the "A Healthier You Legacy". Schools work toward 4 criteria, one building upon the other:
~Bronze - *$200.00 award
~Silver - *$300.00 award
~Gold - *$500.00 award
~Gold Plus - *500.00

* A cash stipend is also awarded to each participating teacher in the Tooele County School District.
For each award level achieved, schools earn cash for physical activity equipment or nutrition equipment (such as a salad bar).

  Each school has their own mentor, a staff member or a college intern specializing in health and wellness. The mentor has the responsibiliy to carry out the program objectives, NOT the teacher!
