Most of the time news of pregnancy brings joy. Sometimes, however, the news may not be so joyful. You may not have insurance. You may not know what to eat to keep you and your baby healthy. You may need help. The Tooele
County Health Department (TCHD) can help you get signed up with the Baby
Your Baby (BYB) Program. TCHD staff assess eligibility for the BYB Program as well as:
Program Coordination
Referral Services
Education
Eligibility is based upon income. You may even qualify for the home visiting program after your baby is born. This program is offered through Medicaid
and the Utah Department of Health to provide financial
support to pregnant women who do not have money to pay for prenatal
care. Baby Your Baby can help finance a pregnancy through a special
"Prenatal Medicaid Program ". You will need to have a pregnancy test performed at the health department at the time of service. The health department cannot reimburse you for this fee.
If you or someone you know is expecting a baby the best thing you
can do right now is seek health care, or encourage someone else to seek health care within the first trimester
(the first 3 months of pregnancy).
Receiving good health care during pregnancy reduces the risk of having
an underweight and / or unhealthy baby dramatically.
