It is the responsibility of Tooele County Environmental Health to protect the public against food borne illness which result from improper food handling. Environmental Health Scientists invest time and energy to assure food service establishments operate in a consistent, safe and clean manner. This responsibility is carried out through an inspection/training program to address issues known to contribute to food borne illness. Proper cooking, cooling, and holding temperatures of food is essential in preventing a food borne illness. As a patron, the last thing anyone would want to worry about is whether or not their food is safe when they eat away from home.
Environmental Health Scientists also investigate all complaints and questions from consumers regarding food service establishments.
The Tooele County Health Department requires all those who work
in the food service industry to obtain a Food Handler Permit. To obtain this permit it is necessary to attend a Food Handlers Class.
In this class, participants learn about foodborne
illness, proper cooking
temperatures, and proper hand washing.
