Swine Flu Public Information  The virus is made up of three strains.  There is one strain Influenza "A" in it from humans, there is one strain of avian flu (the bird flu) and two unique strains of Novel H1N1 Virus or S-0IV (pig) flu.  What makes this new flu so dangerous is that the combination of the three virus' make up a new virus which people have no resistance to.

Swine Flu Public Information  We are likely to continue to see more cases, more hospitalizations, and probably we will see some deaths from this new virus

Swine Flu Public Information  To place this in perspective, however, each year there are 36,000 deaths which result from each influenza (flu) season - not everyone receives a flu shot annually

Swine Flu Public Information  Seasonal flu runs through May in the northern hemisphere, so the normal flu season is just now ending for 2009

Swine Flu Public Information  Based on the rapid spread of the virus thus far, we believe that more cases will be identified over the coming weeks and months.
