The Five - A - Day Campaign is a national effort to encourage adults, teens, and children to eat 5 fruit and/or vegetable servings per day. The Tooele County Health Department has been participating in the program for several years by offering elementary school children activities, assemblies, and grocery store tours.
If you have a third grader in your home, chances are your child has participated
in the Five - A - Day Program. This program includes a field trip to a local grocery store produce department. Most children will have the opportunity to taste a new fruit which they have never tried before.
The Five - A - Day program began as a result of a telephone survey given to 2,837 Americans aged 18 years of old and older. The reason for the study was to determine:
fruit and veggie consumption (eating) of the average american
how people felt, in general, about fruits and veggies
