Be Informed:
- Listen for pandemic influenza updates on TV or radio.
- Pandemic influenza may be very different than regular influenza.
- More people may get sick.
- People may have very severe illness.
- Currently, there is no vaccine for pandemic influenza.
- A pandemic may change the way we live our lives.
- People who are sick may be required to stay home.
- Schools and daycares may be closed to prevent the spread of disease.
- Social gatherings (such as church or other events) may be cancelled

Have a plan:
- Be able to contact your employees in an emergency.
- Create a workplace policy that enables sick employees to stay home during public health emergencies. This is important in preventing the spread of disease!
- Stock up on disposable tissues and alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
- Make a plan for how your business could continue to stay open if many of your employees were unable to come to work because they may be sick or caring for sick family members.
- Can people work at home?
- Can your business stay open fewer hours?
- Could you limit some services

Talk to your people:
- Tell them about pandemic influenza and tell them your plans.
- Talk to them about how pandemic influenza is spread and how to protect themselves, their families and co-workers by practicing good “respiratory etiquette.”
