Successful separation, restriction, and Health Monitoring of ill, exposed, or
likely to be exposed individuals.
Tooele County Health Department's Response plan includes two measures to contain illness in an emergency; isolation and/or quarantine will be used, if necessary.
Quarantine: Restricting the activities of those persons who are not ill, but who are believed to have been exposed to a specific infection or disease. Therefore, these people pose the highest risk of becoming infected.
The use of antibiotics and antiviral agents may reduce the necessity for quarantine.
Quarantine most often will take place in a private residence (home).
Isolation: Separating ill persons from those who are healthy. A typical isolation event would serve two purposes:
(1) Prevents the spread of disease and,
(2) Allows those who are ill to receive health care
Isolation may take place in a private residence (home), hospital, or in a designated Tooele County or City Community Center.
The response plan's primary goal is to prevent person-to-person spread of disease by separating those who have a specific infection from those who are not infected. Also included in the plan are those who are at an increased risk for developing disease from those who are at a lesser risk.
