They don't bleed because when the mosquito
bites a human or other animal, she unknowingly deposits some of her saliva in the person or other animal.
The saliva prevents the bite from bleeding.
Male mosquitos feed on plant juices, nectar,
and some organic matter in the dirt. They do not feed on humans
or other animals.
Mosquitofish can be placed in outdoor
pools. They are special fish you can purchase. They eat hundreds
of thousands of mosquito larvae!
They do kill many insects, but not all of
them. And there is one drawback to these zappers. They don't only
kill mosquitos, but "good" insects as well. Remember,
certain other insects eat mosquitos!
You need to purchase an insect repellant
which contains the chemical "Deet". Apply according to
directions, you don't need to spray or smear it on excessively.
Don't drink it, or get it into your eyes. You can also purchase
a clothing treatment to soak your clothes in if you are going to
travel in an infested area. This treatment contains a chemical called
"Permethrin". Officals recommend using both this clothing
treatment and a repellant if you are going to be in contanimated
areas.
Mosquitos are drawn to those who eat above
average amounts of sugar. They can also detect latic acid (a chemical
produced in the muscles during physical activity). The more physically
active you are, the more attracted the critters are to your body.
Mosquitos provide food for other insects. Bats,
in particular, eat mosquitos. So do some birds, and of course mosquito
fish.
When a mosquito bites, it injects saliva in
the human or other animal. Human bodies react to this saliva by itching. As your
body works on eliminating the chemicals the insect leaves the skin, it
swells, which further inflames the bite site.
Yes. Mosquitos can also lay eggs in swamps,
tidal marshes, flood water, and rice fields.
Although mosquitos are drawn to any light,
they do seem to prefer yellow incandescent bulbs.
Nope! There is no documented evidence anywhere
that being pregnant puts you at a greater risk than any other condition.
