Tooele County Vital Records provides lifetime storage, preservation
and maintenance of birth and death records, registration and screening
of records for accuracy, cross-indexing birth and death records to
prevent fraud, monitoring causes of death for those which may need the attention of the Medical Examiner,
issuance of burial and disinterment permits and continual efforts
to ensure the confidentiality of vital records. Tooele County Health
Department's Vital Records processes nearly 1,000 birth certificates
and over 150 death
certificates
each
year. Nearly 1,500 combined birth and death certified copies are issued
locally each year. The Vital Records computer system was upgraded
to interface with the Utah State Department of Health (UDOH) to begin
a paperless data exchange to provide better service. Certified copies
of birth certificates can now be issued in Tooele for any birth in
the State of Utah since 1953. In addition to the direct services provided
to the citizens of our county, the statistics collected serve as an
excellent tool for planning future services and assessing health trends.
